Invoice matched the truck — boxes did not
Signed for sixty cases of Valleybrook Pilsner at 7:18 this morning. Invoice listed twenty-two-ounce bombers, which is what the shelf tags were printed for and what the cooler map assumed we'd stack four-high.
Driver rolled up door three, and I saw twelve-ounce cans. Standard four-pack carriers. No bombers. He checked his manifest twice, said the warehouse loaded what they loaded, and asked if I wanted to refuse delivery.
I did not want to refuse delivery.
What we did instead
Re-tagged the shelf. Twelve-ounce Valleybrook Pilsner now lives where the bombers were supposed to go, stacked six-high instead of four because the footprint's smaller. The extra two rows fit, barely.
Poured one from the sample case to confirm it was the same beer. It is. Clean, grassy, 19 IBU according to the new label. Drinks exactly like the bomber version we carried last spring, just in a more practical format for people who don't want 22 ounces of pilsner in one sitting.
Called the distributor after lunch. They'll send a credit memo for the size discrepancy, maybe. The warehouse manager said they've been phasing out bombers across the Valleybrook line since March and nobody updated the order system.
Current status
Sixty cases of twelve-ounce Valleybrook Pilsner, shelf two, middle-left. The tags are correct now. The invoice is not, but I have a note taped to it that says "cans not bombers" in red pen, which is the kind of thing that will confuse someone during inventory and I'll have to explain it again in six weeks.
Truck leaves in four minutes for the next stop. I signed the paper.
