After hours

Delivery manifest said 18 cases, dock count says 19

Unloaded the Thursday truck at 6:47 a.m. Manifest listed three SKUs: twelve cases of Horizon Wheat, four cases of Pinecrest Lager, two cases of Meadowbrook Stout. Straightforward load.

Counted everything off the pallet. Eighteen cases total, all accounted for. Then noticed a nineteenth case wedged behind the Pinecrest stack — unmarked brown cardboard, brewery tape across the top, no label visible.

What's in the extra case

Opened it in the back room. Six-packs of something called Overland Pale Ale, 5.2% ABV, no distributor sticker. Cans look legitimate: nutrition facts, government warning, batch code stamped on the bottom. Brewer is listed as Overland Brewing, city says Ferndale but I've never heard of them.

Called the distributor. They said the manifest is correct at eighteen cases and they don't carry anyone named Overland. Told me to set it aside and they'd sort it next week.

Current status

Case is still in the back stock room, second shelf from the floor, next to the Pinecrest overflow. I wrote "Hold — Len" on the side with a Sharpie. If someone from Overland Brewing calls looking for a missing case, we have it.

If the distributor doesn't claim it by Tuesday, I'll ask Mitch what to do. Maybe it goes in the cooler, maybe it goes back on the next truck. Either way, it showed up and now it's documented.

Nineteen cases. Counted twice.
