Cedarpoint Dunkelweizen and the register I closed wrong
Cedarpoint Dunkelweizen came in Thursday afternoon — dark wheat, banana-clove yeast profile, 19 IBU that doesn't interfere with the roasted malt underneath. It's good. I poured one around seven-thirty when the shop was empty and it tasted like the kind of beer you'd want after a long shift.
Which is relevant because I closed tonight and the register drawer is off by eleven dollars and I have no idea where they went.
The beer part
Cedarpoint pours a deep amber-brown, almost mahogany in the right light. The banana esters are there but they're quieter than a standard hefeweizen — the roasted wheat and Munich malt do most of the talking. Clove shows up on the finish, subtle, doesn't overstay. It's 5.2% ABV and drinks smooth enough that I had to remind myself I was still technically on the clock.
We've got two cases left on the middle shelf in cooler one. It pairs well with the kind of night where you recount the drawer three times and still come up short.
The register part
I closed at nine. Counted the cash twice, checked the credit batch, printed the Z-report. Drawer was over by eleven dollars. Recounted. Still over. Checked the receipt roll for voided transactions — nothing weird. Recounted again. Now I'm under by two dollars, which means I miscounted, which means I've been staring at fives and tens for so long they all look the same.
Eventually I wrote "discrepancy: see notes" on the envelope and left it for Mitch.
The Dunkelweizen is good though. 19 IBU, roasted wheat, banana in the back. Two cases in cooler one. Come get some before I drink the rest of it after my next closing shift.
