Bramble Creek Hefeweizen: clove hit harder than expected
We cracked the first Bramble Creek Hefeweizen Thursday around two, right after the delivery guy left. Label said "traditional Bavarian style, notes of banana and wheat." Poured it into a tasting glass. Clove came through so strong I thought we'd grabbed the wrong bottle.
What the label promised vs. what we got
Label copy: soft banana, light wheat, easy finish. Reality: clove up front, clove in the middle, clove hanging around after you swallow. Banana's there, but it's playing backup. The wheat's fine — clean, a little bready — but that spice is doing all the talking.
IBU sits at 14, which tracks. It's not bitter. It's just loud in a way we didn't expect from a hefeweizen.
Team thoughts
Sara said it reminded her of the holiday cookies her aunt makes. I said it reminded me of the Copperline Witbier we stocked last month, minus the coriander. Kyle just shrugged and said "tastes like clove." He's not wrong.
We put six four-packs on the end-cap anyway. If you like a hefeweizen that leans into the phenolic side, this one's for you. If you want banana bread in a bottle, maybe grab something else.
Tap to reserve your four-pack — we've got eighteen cases and the team's already claimed two.
